Yea just checked, its 49$ to get the certificate for intro to psych, but if remember correctly you can enroll for free and then just pay if/when you finish. Im pretty sure they also have some form of financial aid.

You might be interested in MOOCs - these are free online courses and cover a variety of topics, one being psychology. You can watch a series of lectures and some even have homework/worksheets to do. Please enjoy! https://www.coursera.org/learn/introduction-psych?

I don't know about books, but I do strongly recommend her(?) to try out some recorded lectures or MOOCs on Psychology 101, just to get used to the flavour of what a university lecture might be like (you can audit all of them for free). Some that I can find right now:

• Introduction to Developmental Psychology from the University of Queensland-->this one's a live MOOC so it's released in real time but you can audit it for free
• Paul Bloom from Yale University has a couple of psych courses. The Open Yale Course version is a bit older and cruder-filmed but it's more of a classroom environment. He also has a Coursera version of the same course
• If your relative wants to look at implications for ethics from psychology, try Bloom's Moralities of Everyday Life
• Introduction to Psychology by Steve Joordens of the University of Toronto
