Analytics and metrics are really fantastic, and one way to make yourself indispensable is if you have an understanding of metrics AND you can drive the change in your organisation. "Change Management" is a highly sought-after skill in HR, and in my organisation it's listed as a strategic imperative for the success of HR.
If you really want to move up in HR and have long-term job security, I'd recommend getting a bachelor's degree at a minimum, but even consider a master's. If you're not ready for that commitment or cost, check out hr organisations (in the US it's SHRM, but look up what's popular in Canada), and start reading. Google has some amazing papers from their "People Operations" department, but also look at more established HR organizations like GE.
The professors from my masters program put together this online course, which is basically the cliff notes of the program. I believe it costs money to complete the certification, but might be free if you just want to watch the videos. https://www.coursera.org/specializations/human-resource-management
Also, the TED podcast "Work-life with Adam Grant" can expose you to a high-level of what the future of HR needs to consider. Much more interesting than textbooks on the topic.
Good luck!
