What marketing courses should I take/skills should I learn as an indie app developer

My goals

I'm a computer scientist and have some bigger projects, like a social media that I'm working on, and I really have a desire to be able to design simple viral apps. Eventually I'd like to put out a number of apps and work mostly on the business side of them, and get away from developing.

Business courses I've taken

  • business law
  • entrepreneurship
  • entrepreneurship marketing (audit)

I'm looking on coursera and it looks like there's some cool courses

but I want to know what skills you consider to be the most essential, and what things I shouldn't spend any time on(ex: Do people in the industry actually ever do a SWAT or PORTER analysis?)

Also if you have any specific online courses which you would recommend, please mention them.

Awesome! I’m doing them both for free through Coursera.

There’s thousands you can chose from but these seemed good for me!

Run marketing, growth and UA at an indie studio with a background on Wall St. and no marketing experience. It's drinking from a fire hose. I started with these two courses:

Take up a MOOC and complete it. That's one of the best ways to learn as well as reading books- check out Geoffrey Moore's Crossing the Chasm or any of Seth Godin's books.

Here is a list of good quality MOOCs to get you up and running.

I'd recommend you pay for the certification because it'd advantageous to have it on your LinkedIn Profile. However, if you're just auditing, ensure you learn the shit out of it.

Have fun and best of luck. Cheers.

My terrible advice: whatever you enjoy most. You're going to enjoy the course, you'll retain the most, and hopefully you put to use the most in your new job.

You can never go wrong with data. So here's a few ideas:
- Google Analytics academy: https://analytics.google.com/analytics/academy/
- Coursera has several good courses: https://www.coursera.org/courses?query=business%20metrics
- Udemy as well: https://www.udemy.com/course/marketinganalytics/

A few random online classes that I've recently finished. And, I prefer Coursera than actual certificates, but that's just my personal opinion.
- Agile meets design thinking: https://www.coursera.org/learn/uva-darden-getting-started-agile?#enroll
- Aligning business, brand and behavior: https://www.coursera.org/learn/brand

Some other ideas:
