The lifestraw family 1.0 is a tried and tested system for developing countries. Simple, cheap, reliable and good filtration. Nothing fancy, but a very good workhorse. This system is to be used in a home setting; where you just use a jug to fill the system and let gravity do the work.
Not sure if you can still access it, but this course is a very good introduction to water treatment and storage (the short-term storage is also very important and often overlooked): https://www.coursera.org/learn/water-treatment/home/welcome
The course also discusses the lifestraw family system (and other common systems like the Tulip system, local build systems, etc).
The comments I read here are people comparing it with different kind of systems. A filter straw or squeeze filter are designed to be mobile and light. The lifestraw family 1.0 is designed for home use and does that job well.
